Grouse Mountain or Capilano Suspension Bridge with Kids? An Honest Comparison
They're the two big North Shore attractions, 10 minutes apart on the same road, and both are pricey. So which one, with kids? Short answer: Capilano for little ones and rainforest walks; Grouse for older kids, views and snow in winter.
Here's how they compare, plus the free option many local families choose instead. Check each official website for current hours and tickets.
Quick verdict
- Toddlers and young kids: Capilano. Flat-ish paths, short bridges in the trees, about 2–3 hours.
- Kids 7 and up: Grouse in summer (lumberjack show, grizzlies, the gondola ride) or winter (snow play, skating, skiing). Its seasonal events are the reason locals go back.
- On a budget: Lynn Canyon. A free suspension bridge over a canyon, 15 minutes away.
- Want both? Doable in one long day: Capilano in the morning, Grouse in the afternoon and for sunset.
Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
- What you get: the famous swaying bridge high over the Capilano River, Treetops Adventure (small bridges between giant firs) and Cliffwalk (a glass-floored walkway on the cliff), all in one ticket. Tickets
- Kids: free for 5 and under in 2026. Strollers can't go on the bridges; bring a carrier for babies.
- Time: 2–3 hours. Free shuttles run from downtown Vancouver.
- Best season: all year. In winter it glows with Canyon Lights.
Grouse Mountain
- What you get: the Skyride gondola to the top, mountain views, and seasonal activities: the lumberjack show and the grizzly bear refuge in summer, snow play, skating and skiing in winter. Tickets
- Kids: free for 5 and under with a paying adult in 2026.
- Time: half a day. Go up on a clear day; in cloud you'll see little.
- Best season: summer for the shows and bears (they hibernate in winter); winter for snow.
The free alternative: Lynn Canyon
Lynn Canyon Park has its own suspension bridge (shorter, but free), rainforest trails, waterfalls and swimming holes in summer. It's the choice of many local families, who tend to see Capilano as the polished, commercial version of Lynn Canyon. Wear good shoes, and keep kids close near the water, which is cold and fast.
Local tips: parking at Lynn Canyon is hard on busy days, so go early or be ready to wait. Kids can dip their feet in the stream in calm, shallow spots, and it's a lovely place for a picnic. Keen hikers can follow the Baden-Powell Trail from here all the way to Deep Cove, past more suspension bridges, but it's a long hike and not for young kids.
